What is the BI-1111 Superbird?
The BI-1111 “Superbird” is a revolutionary Blended Wing Body (BWB) aircraft designed by Birdman International to deliver cargo efficiently, especially to underserved or austere airports with short or unpaved runways.
How is the BI-1111 different from traditional cargo planes?
Unlike traditional tube-and-wing aircraft, the BI-1111 features a Blended Wing Body design for greater lift, fuel efficiency, and cargo volume. It also has advanced cargo-loading systems, including an aft door for rapid loading.
What makes the Superbird eco-friendly?
The BI-1111 uses Open Fan Architecture (OFA) engines that save up to 20% in fuel and is fully compatible with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), reducing carbon emissions and operating noise.
What is a Smart Container and how does it work?
BI Smart Containers are GPS-enabled, temperature-controlled units designed to reduce loss, damage, and spoilage. They include mobile electronic consoles (MECs) for real-time cargo monitoring.
How much cargo can the BI-1111 carry?
The aircraft can carry up to 120,000 lbs (approximately 54,400 kg) of cargo and features up to 16 pallet positions that can be loaded in under one minute per pallet.
What are Alpha TAGS?
Alpha TAGS (Terminal Guidance System) allows the Superbird to safely navigate and land in areas with limited or no airport control infrastructure, expanding its serviceable destinations by over 3,000 sites globally.
Confidentiality and Security
Birdman International plans to enter the market by producing smart containers first, followed by scaled aircraft production. Strategic MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) acquisitions will support this rollout.
When will the Superbird be commercially available?
Birdman International plans to begin accepting orders during the Series A phase, with aircraft deliveries scheduled to start in 2031.
Where can I see the Superbird in person?
The 56th International Paris Air Show (SIAE) will be held from June 14–20, 2027, at the Paris-Le Bourget Exhibition Centre, marking a premier global event for aerospace, defense, and space.
