Superbird’s Mission – Expanding Access, Saving Time

Birdman International’s mission with the BI-1111 Superbird is simple yet bold: to bring fast, efficient, and environmentally responsible air transport to the world’s most underserved locations. With over 900 austere airports in Canada alone and thousands more globally, current aircraft can’t serve these regions due to runway limitations.
That’s where the Superbird changes the game. Its short takeoff and landing (STOL) capabilities and rugged design allow it to access remote destinations, delivering cargo directly without relying on truck-based final delivery. This reduces breakage, delays, and logistical headaches while increasing economic opportunities in hard-to-reach areas. Powered by fuel-saving OFA engines and built using SkinSilver Technology, the Superbird is as forward-thinking as it is practical. It also uses Alpha TAGS, a terminal guidance system that expands the number of navigable destinations by thousands.
For governments, humanitarian efforts, or private cargo firms, the Superbird represents a cost-saving, time-reducing, and eco-conscious solution. With 100% reliance on Sustainable Aviation Fuel, it’s a future-ready aircraft designed not just to fly, but to transform the logistics landscape.
The step change in cost per ton-mile or (kilogram-kilometer) brought by the BI-1111, combined with its ability to operate at shorter and more austere runways, will open up new markets for air freight around the globe. This will stimulate local economies – allowing them to profitably produce a wide range of industrial and agricultural products. This will also improve services to the Billions of people living in these regions – including the supply of manufacturing components and perishable or time-sensitive consumer products, and relief during natural disasters and other disruptive events. Birdman International isn’t just building an aircraft; we’re building access to a better-connected world.
